Zipabout in Malaysia

Part of a global drive to make urban public transport the only way to go in Malaysia

Around the world, urban leaders and transport operators are working creatively to make using public transport in cities a no-brainer - more integrated, convenient and affordable. We want to get people out of their cars and onto buses, trains and metros.

Now Zipabout is teaming up with global industry experts to bring personalised journey messaging to Kuala Lumpur, the dense and dynamic Malaysian city where getting on for two million people live and work.

Together with the Birmingham Centre for Railway Research and Education, and Asia Mobiliti – a Malaysian urban transit technology company – we’re working to integrate Zipabout into the systems of Prasarana Malaysia, who run Malaysia’s urban rail services. Amongst other things Asia Mobiliti make custom-built devices for vehicles to collect real-time travel info. Zipabout’s unique personalised journey service will be an essential part of making Kuala Lumpur a smooth-running city and an example to other global cities.

The impact

  • With Zipabout on board, Prasarana will be able to capture and analyse a huge range of information about how the city’s transport system is working, and how people use it
  • It will let them communicate with passengers individually and get a picture of what people need
  • The guesswork will be taken out of planning
  • Passengers will find using Kuala Lumpur’s public transport an easier, happier experience.
